​​Avelyn holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Japanese Studies from the National University of Singapore, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play from Play Therapy UK. She has been a certified member of Play Therapy International since 2017.

Although Avelyn spent several years in the corporate sector, her deep-rooted interest in child development and emotional well-being led her to pursue a more meaningful path. She joined the Child Protection Unit under the Ministry of Community Development and Sports (now the Ministry of Social and Family Development), where she worked extensively with children who had experienced abuse or neglect, as well as with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

During her time there, Avelyn attended various professional workshops endorsed by the Ministry, including those on mediation, anger management, and counselling. However, it was her encounter with Play Therapy that truly resonated with her. Recognising its potential as a powerful therapeutic tool for vulnerable children, she went on to become a certified Therapeutic Play Practitioner.

Since 2017, Avelyn has been providing Play Therapy to children with a wide range of needs—including those on the autism spectrum, non-verbal children, and those with global developmental delays. She also supports children facing emotional regulation challenges, issues with self-expression or confidence, and those coping with family disruptions such as divorce or bereavement.

In addition to her play therapy work, Avelyn is a registered relief teacher with the Ministry of Education. She believes strongly in the importance of empowerment in a child’s development and views Play Therapy as a natural, neuroscience-informed approach to healing. Her goal is to support children in becoming more confident, emotionally resilient, and the best version of themselves.
